Back-to-School Organizing Tips for the Mom-On-The-Go

Posted by lapantz4less on August 17, 2008

Back to school can be a stressful time of year. Families must change from the laid-back summer schedule to the non-stop school and activity calendars that keep moms jumping from one activity to the next without a moment’s rest. Fortunately, today there is help.
GO MOM !NC, a leader in products to help you organize your busy life, provides its latest advice to keep Moms organized as they get their families back-to-school this fall. “Across the nation, busy parents are focused on easing their children into the new school year,” states Molly Gold, founder of GO MOM !NC. “My role as a Family Scheduling Expert is to help Moms focus on how they can better organize themselves to be ready for all that change and be mindful of how their own workload will evolve alongside of their family.”

Want the cliff notes on how you can get organized for Fall 2006? Take a look below:

Plan Ahead – The only way you can command your time is to consciously map it. Simply put, use a family-oriented planner that enables you to track all family members’ schedules in one place. When you monitor your family schedule, you can then plan how and when to accomplish important back-to-school tasks, such as replacing clothes, purchasing school supplies, and attending back-to-school night. Stock your kids’ homework stations with pencil and paper basics while purchasing classroom items. Take it one step further by creating an emergency project box full of grade appropriate tools that will hold the night before anxiety at bay. Visit Target stores for an ample supply of poster board, report folders, markers, glue sticks, and an assortment of interesting arts and crafts items in small quantities to allow your child’s creativity to shine, one project at a time.

Plan for Paper – Before you start stacking all those important school papers in a long forgotten corner of your kitchen, or on top of last month’s bills, put your paper trail in place beginning with in/out boxes for each family member. Show everyone where to place their papers and then sort them daily with your planner at hand to note important deadlines and tasks. When setting up your own filing system, check out the new GO MOM!® School Organizer. With monthly pockets for everything from school-related projects and fundraisers, to teacher newsletters and activities rosters, you can’t help but be ready for the first round of parent/teacher conferences at the end of first quarter. If it’s your house that keeps you buried, you’ll find the GO MOM!® Home Organizer to be equally as effective in helping you categorize and sort the most important papers as you manage your family’s busy days.

Plan to Purge – We all do better with a clean, organized environment. If you haven’t yet gone through everyone’s closets, dressers, and bedrooms while evaluating wardrobes for school, do it as soon as you have your routine in motion. Make room for the year ahead by rounding up all outgrown items, discarding everything that can’t be repaired, both in the toy and clothing departments. For items in good condition, arrange for a charitable donation or enlist your kids’ help and plan a yard sale in late September. Take advantage of your clean slate and give each room a quick cleaning with an all-purpose cleaner like Mr. Clean Extra Power Multi-Surface Cleaner for even the toughest jobs. From scrubbing baseboards to replacing air filters, flipping mattresses and cleaning windows, Fall is a great time to freshen your home and welcome the change of seasons. And for Moms of older kids, enlist their helping hands as you plow through this process. Respect and responsibility for both our possessions and environment are life skills worth teaching. GO MOM !NC is based in Apex, NC and promotes the use of The GO MOM!® Organizer and GO MOM!® Planner, unique day planner systems for everything that is family. Founder Molly Gold is a 40-year-old mother of three and the creator of the GO MOM!® product line, which will grow this September to include The GO MOM!® Wall Organizer, The GO MOM!® School Organizer, and The GO MOM!® Home Organizer. All products in the GO MOM!® line are produced via license partnership with Mead Westvaco Consumer and Office Products and sold at major retailers nationwide, including Target, Staples, and Office Max. Posted by lapantz4less on June 2, 2008

The modern day computer technology user always strive for perfection and innovation and is ready to pay a justified price for it. These are the reasons that drive a computer manufacturer to offer smart and innovative products to him.

The present day computer market has undergone several remarkable changes. The traditional floppy diskettes and desktop computers have been replaced by USB pen drives and laptops respectively. These changes are obviously due to the high-end innovations in addition to research and development. Whatever the reasons may be, the greatest beneficiary of these favourable changes is none other than the Customer.

In the last few decades, the bulky desktop computers used to bag the limelight irrespective of the fact that they were not able to deliver high-class solutions but just-acceptable performance, reliability and speed. Things are changing now for the good and the laptops have replaced them with their unbeatable style, performance and portability.

A laptop makes use of the signals that are transmitted over the radio-type frequencies instead of the traditional tangible wires. The users can enjoy uninterrupted Internet access through their laptops as long as there is a detectable wireless network within its reach. It can be easily placed in a home or office setup and can be used to send and receive e-mails and attachments even while on the move.

Let us now move to study some of the benefits of a laptop followed by the possible reasons behind its unparalleled success. A laptop, being wireless and lightweight, can be easily carried to any place without any hassles. It offers state-of-the-art technology besides a higher degree of resolution, flexibility, reliability and even affordability than the bulky desktop computers. This is the primary reason why they are the obvious and ideal choice for everyone; from business executives to college-going students and from busy housewives to software professionals.

There have been many reasons that have positively influenced the growth and sales of laptops in the recent years. High competition, favourable market trends, innovative technologies, research & development and change in customers’ preferences are some of the noticeable factors.

If you are looking for high-quality yet cheap laptops then the HCL MiLeap X Laptop, HCL MiLeap L notebook and HCL MiLeap Y Ultra-portable laptop are good options. These HCL laptops are high on performance, reliability, affordability, flexibility and never fail to deliver above expectations.

However, if you are looking for a smart and reliable laptop then you should not rush. You must perform a detailed market survey of both the traditional and online market. Do not purchase laptops from the grey market or unauthorised vendors as the products may be of sub-standard quality. Define your priorities and features you are looking for and get the best for your needs.

Disconnected And Amplified: Wireless Microphones

Posted by lapantz4less on May 13, 2008

Submitted By: Dave Text

Wireless microphones work well when it is clearly defined what they are for. The purpose dictates the kind of wireless mic needed.
Wireless microphones work by using different frequencies, standard or transmission technologies to replace the cable. In a wired microphone, the cable is used to transmit sound from the receiver in the microphone to an amplifying or recording device. The sound travels as an electric signal through the cable then gets converted back to sound waves. In wireless microphones, the electric signal for sound travels through the air in the form of waves or frequencies to a transmitter.

Wireless microphones can use radiowaves such as those in the UHF and VHF frequencies, FM, AM or other digital schemes. Some low cost models even use infrared, which required that the transmitter have an unobstructed line to the microphone.
There are two main kinds of wireless microphones in use today. One is the handheld type, which comes with its own battery, and transmitter while the other is a body pack, which has the battery pack and transmitter separate from the receiver of the microphone, which may come in the form of a lapel, headset or others.

There are several things to consider when choosing a wireless microphone. One has to consider what the mic will be used for. Since wireless microphones are often used for productions, shoots and live performances, the type of setting it will be used in will help determine what kind of wireless microphone to get. A body pack with a lapel mic would be ideal if the purpose is to use a wireless mic without it being too obvious. A handheld wireless mic could be used if it is not important whether the microphone is seen.

Since modern wireless microphones use frequencies to transmit sound, it should be considered how many microphones would be used at the time. Several microphones used together may result in a mix up of the signal. Wireless microphones that enable the user to configure the frequency would be ideal so that there will be no crossing of signals and that all will work properly.

In using wireless microphones, one has to consider the fact that some spots or areas inhibit the use of frequencies. These spots are called dead spots, and there may be some in the area where the mics will be used.

One concern with wireless microphones is the range. Some wireless microphones have a limited range, which restricts the movement of the one using it. Higher end wireless mics can provide users with a greater range of movement because of its stronger signal and frequency.
Another concern when choosing wireless mics is the battery life. Since wireless mics come equipped with its own battery packs and are not plugged directly into any outlet. One has to check the standard battery life of the wireless mics to ensure that they can last for the duration of the desired use.

The type of wireless mic on the market comes down to two main categories. The first is the consumer or prosumer level of wireless microphone. These products enable enthusiasts, amateurs and beginners to try using wireless microphones for non-professional use. Consumer grade wireless microphones are often sold as a complete set and most often come in the form of handheld mics with charger and receiver.

The professional grade wireless microphones are those meant for professional use. They are often sold individually as components that can be added to an existing set-up such as a digital video or recording set-up. These often cost more but make up for it with better features and changeable settings.

Dell Discounting Desktop PCs By Almost 50 Percent

Posted by lapantz4less on May 8, 2008

Dude, you’re getting a discount!
It appears to be second-quarter discount time at Dell , as the company is offering some fairly substantial deals — almost half off of selected models — to apparently get rid of older inventory before the upcoming Intel Conroe launch.

Dell officials said late Friday that they were simply making the offers to “be competitive”.

Note that these apply to the “small business” portion of the site, although that definition could apply to any small home office.

While a number of deals expired this morning, Dell’s “Hot Offers” desktop page lists a few low-end Dimensions, including the mid-range Dell Dimension 5150 for nearly half off. The 5150, for example, normally sells for $1,079 in its base configuration, and now costs $579 for the same specs, which include a Pentium D 820, a gigabyte of RAM, and a 19-inch flat panel; an ATI Radeon X300 upgrade from the default Intel integrated graphics is another $50. The deals expire May 3, and don’t require a coupon code or a rebate.

Dell officals said late Friday that they didn’t believe that the deals were being made to flush inventory, either during the typically slow second quarter or in anticipation of the Intel “Conroe” processor launch this summer.

“Generally speaking, we’ve historically made moves to be competitive with our offerings, and I believe that’s the case here,” said Venancio Figueroa, a spokesman for Dell’s consumer line.

By contrast, Gateway’s desktop page is only offering a combination of “instant savings” and mail-in rebates of about $80 or so per PC. HP’s own discount offers on its HP Pavilion desktop page are slightly better, offering up to $200 back on selected models, with the purchase of a monitor.

We’re not officially recommending these bargains; you’re obviously free to pick up what you want. Still, it’s a nice way to pick up a second machine for just a few bucks, just in time for Mother’s Day.

How to Clean your Keyboard

Posted by lapantz4less on May 6, 2008

Written By: Ray Geide
Reference: http://www.lapantz4less.com

When it comes to cleaning your keyboard there are many methods that can be used, some harder and more effective than others.

The easiest method is the Shake Method. It is so easy that you can do it right now. Pick up your keyboard, turn it over being careful not to press any keys, and shake it. See all of that stuff fall out? It is dirtier than you thought, isn’t it? You can use one of the following methods to clean it further.

The Blow Method – You can buy cans of pressurized air at the computer department or computer store which are made especially for cleaning your computer. They usually have either a hose and nozzle or a tube extending from the nozzle. Hold the keyboard up vertically (that means that end of the keyboard is up and the other end is down), aim towards the keys and press the button. Keep blowing until all of the debris is blown out. Be sure to get around and in between all of the keys. This can be done with the computer on, but it is better if it is off so that you do not have to worry about pressing the keys and coming up with a page of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’s.

The Vacuum Method – This is just like the Blow Method except that a vacuum is used instead of a can of pressurized air. It is quite simple. Just turn the vacuum on, pull out the hose, and run the nozzle over the keys. Before doing this make sure your keyboard does not have any loose pop off keys that could be sucked into the vacuum.

The Cotton Ball Method – This can be done in addition to the above methods and in lieu of the following methods. Take a cotton ball or cloth and wet it with rubbing alcohol. It should not be so wet that the alcohol runs down into the cracks of the keyboard. Wipe the tops and sides of the keys.

The Dishwasher Method – I hesitate to tell about this method because there is the possibility that it could fry your keyboard. When I had less experience with computers, I dunked my keyboard in a sink full of water to clean it. It did work afterwards, so I don’t doubt those who say this method will not mess up your keyboard, but if it does, don’t complain to me. I warned you. If your keyboard is not the standard membrane type of keyboard or if it is on a laptop, do not even think of trying this.

This is how you do it. Unplug the keyboard and place it face down in an empty dishwasher. Do not disassemble the keyboard and do not put it in a dishwasher that has dirty dishes in it. Some say to add soap, some say not to. Run the dishwasher through a regular cycle. Take the keyboard out, shake the water out, and stand it on end until it is completely dry (this may take several days). If it does not work after doing this, it may not be dry. Let it stand another week and try it again. If it still does not work, I warned you.

The Disassembly Method – This is the most thorough method, but it should not be done on laptop keyboards or non-standard non-membrane keyboards.

Turn off the computer and unplug the keyboard. Turn the keyboard upside down. You may want to get two books or short boards to place the keyboard on. Position them so that they hold up the keyboard on the edges when it is turned over. This should leave the keys dangling and not touching the books or the floor. This is especially needed when the keyboard’s back is off; otherwise the keys will be lifted out of their position by the floor (or whatever surface it is laying on).

Get a screwdriver and remove all of the screws from the back of the keyboard. Lay the keyboard down on the books and carefully remove the back.

Take everything apart and clean thoroughly. It is better to take the keys out one at a time and clean them so that you do not put them back in the wrong place. Wipe each one down with a wet cloth and then with a dry cloth. Any keys that may be hard to put back in, can be cleaned in place without removing them. Wipe around the keys as they sit in place and blow any debris out with your lungs (using compressed air or a vacuum may upset the keys). If you are really brave, you can remove all of the keys at once and give the frame a good wipe down too.

Do a once over and make sure that you have cleaned everything. Then reassemble it all.

Don’t forget the keyboard’s cable. Wrap a wet cloth around it and wipe it down. It may have an accumulation of grime that needs to be scrubbed off. Also if any of the letters on the keys have rubbed off, you can use a fine point permanent marker to draw the letter back on the key.

Use these cleaning methods and your keyboard will last a long time and be something you can be proud of.
